Coloniale company: a family-run business

The story of our company dates back to 1946 when Commander Mr. Libero Polojaz set up the Trans-Coloniale company which later became the Coloniale. Over a span of a few years, the Coloniale business grew substantially, becoming the main coffee supplier to more than a half of the coffee-roasting companies throughout the Italian territory. Business was booming and in 1976 the Cogeco company, headed by Mr. Giovanni Lokar, was established.

Many years have passed, but Cogeco has remained true to its own traditions and still buys raw products from the same countries from which the Coloniale at the time used to purchase its own.
Indeed, today, as in the past, most of our coffee is of Brasilian origin. However, an important event in the history of coffee trade made Trieste a point of reference in the sector: the opening of the Brazilian Institute of Coffee Deposit in Trieste Free-Zone warehouses in the ‘50s. The presence of this deposit enabled the local coffee trade sector to surge, and thus explains why Trieste is still considered nowadays one of the International Capitals of coffee.

Looking towards the future with confidence

In 2008, Cogeco opts for a strategical decision: in order to secure its long-term stability and foothold within a complex coffee sector, which plays a vital role in the local economy, the Lokar family has sold the Cogeco company to KB1909 Financial Holding.
“Cogeco’s exceptional experience and solid presence on a national level are extremely valuable starting points from which further develop the already successful coffee business activity while allowing KB1909 to access the coffee roasting industry”. These were the words spoken by KB1909‘s managing directors while signing the agreement with Cogeco.

Cogeco's strengths remain very much focused on quality, the wide range of products, the always readily available stock, and a solid structure planning management, which allowed Cogeco to cut itself a secure place in the market. Moreover, throughout the course of the Cogeco's history, the company has always pursued a relationship of trust with its suppliers, which accounts for Cogeco's impecable image of reliability.
